Carpenter
The carpenter's hammer goes knock, knock, knock,
And his saw goes see, saw, see,
He planes and measures
He hammers and he saws
While he build something for me.
The Mail Carrier
See the mail carrier
Dressed in blue
He's walking, walking, walking
Do you think he'll bring to you
Some postcards and a letter too?
Community Helpers
Mailmen deliver mail, Nurses help us when we're sick, Bankers deposit money, Farmers raise cows, goats, and chicks. Doctors, teachers, and police, We all need them so. Each does an important part -- Always on the go. Bus drivers, sales and firemen, Couldn't do without them too! Can't wait ‘til you grow up, There's so many jobs for you!!
Community Helpers
Teacher, teacher, what do you do?
I teach reading and writing too.
Doctor, doctor, what do you do?
I help when you’re sick, with a cold or a flu.
Firefighter, firefighter, what do you do?
I help fight fires that might hurt you.
Officer, officer, what do you do?
I help you stay safe in all that you do!
Mail Carrier
See the mailman dressed in blue,
Will he bring a letter to you?
He works when it rains and when it snows,
He even works when the wind blows!
The carpenter's hammer goes knock, knock, knock,
And his saw goes see, saw, see,
He planes and measures
He hammers and he saws
While he build something for me.

RIDDLES
I keep houses and buildings looking like new.
I need a brush & paints to do my work.
Who am I?
Painter
I help to make the community a safe place.
Who am I?
Police Officer
I go to work when I see smoke and sometimes fire.
Who am I?
Fireman
I want you to learn as much as you can.
I use books to help.
Who am I?
Teacher
I drive lots of children to and from school.
Who am I?
Bus Drive
I need a brush & paints to do my work.
Who am I?

Police Officer

Who am I?
Fireman
I want you to learn as much as you can.

Who am I?

FINGERPLAYS
A Fireman
This brave fireman is going to bed
(hold up right thumb)
Down on the pillow he lays his head
(right thumb on left palm)
Wraps himself in his blanket tight
(curl fingers around thumb)
And plans to sleep this way all night
(close eyes)
But the fire alarm rings! He opens his eyes!
(open eyes)
Quickly he's dressed and down the pole he slides
(right hand slides down left arm in a grip from elbow to wrist)
Then he climbs on the truck to go, go, go.
(hands manipulate imaginary steering wheel)
Five Little Firefighters
Five little fire fighters sit very still
(hold up five fingers)
Until they see a five on top of the hill
Number one rings the bell, ding-dong.
(bend down thumb)
Number 2 pulls his big boots on.
(bend down pointer finger)
Number 3 climbs on the truck right away.
(bend down middle finger)
Number 4 joins him, no one can wait.
(bend down ring finger)
Number 5 drives the truck to the fire.
(bend down little finger)
The big yellow flames go higher and higher.
(spread arms)
Whooo-ooo! Whooo-ooo! Hear the fire truck say
(imitate siren)
As all of the cars get out of the way.
Shhh! goes the water from the fire hose spout,
(rub palms together)
And quicker than a wink the fire is out!
(clap hands.)
Policeman
This is a car driving down the street
(right fist travels down extended left arm)
Here's a policeman walking his beat
(right index and middle fingers walk down left arm)
Now he is checking the stores at night
To see that the stores are locked up tight
(right index finger and thumb turn key in keyhole formed by crook of little finger of left hand, other fingers in a fist.)
And this is the friendly traffic cop,
(left hand in fist, index finger straight up)
Who tells the cars when to Go and Stop!
(on Go index finger beckons, on Stop, raise fist up)
When cars get in a traffic jam
(jam fists together)
He help them better than anyone can.
(left index finger as cop stands erect)
If I Were
If I were a baker (pretend to put on a hat and apron)
What would I do?
Bake lots of cookies (make a circle with thumb and forefinger)
For me and you. (point to self and a friend)
If I were a secretary, (pretend to type and write on a notepad)
What would I do?
Answer the phone, (hold pretend phone to ear)
"How do you do?"
If I were a veterinarian, (pretend to put a stethoscope in ears)
What would I do?
Care for your pet (pretend to examine a cat or dog)
It's special to you.
If I were a dentist, (look in mouth of friend)
What would I do?
Check those teeth (pretend to drill or x-ray friend's teeth)
That's good for you!
If I were a hair dresser (pretend to comb a friend's hair)
What would I do?
Wash and trim your hair (pretend to wash & cut a friend's hair)
"Oh, pretty!" for you!
Helpers
This is Dr. Bell who keeps us well. (thumb up)
This is Nurse Rick, who cares for the sick. (index up)
This is Dr. Health, who cares for our teeth. (middle up)
This is Postman Dale, who delivers our mail. (ring up)
This one here -- hey, that's me! (pinky up)
We all work together for our community!
